Job Description

Reporting to the Director, Financial Reporting, the individual will have a strategic role in the design, implementation and maintenance of financial processes & controls, in order to support annual SOX certification. This individual will also assist in preparing and filing the interim and annual consolidated financial statements and Management’s Discussion and Analysis (MD&A) and providing input on other regulatory filings.

  • Establish the overall SOX program strategy, planning, scoping, and top-level risk assessments.
  • Advise on compliance with IFRS and applicable Canadian and U.S. rules and regulations over financial reporting.
  • Participate in drafting interim and annual financial statement notes and disclosure, and the MD&A.
  • Preparation of management review financial analysis as part of the quarterly & year-end closing process;
  • Assist in documentation of internal accounting policies;
  • Recommend and coordinate changes and improvements in automated financial and reporting information systems for improved financial management.
  • Provide training & guidance to finance and operations teams on control design and performance, including the nature, extent, and documentation of testing required.
  • Select and implement SOX compliance software to utilize technology in the management of the program.
  • Review overall extent of control testing relative to the testing by external auditors and identify opportunities for alignment.
  • Support external audit process.
  • Manage the maintenance of processes and controls documentation for key transaction cycles and accounting processes;
  • Design internal controls for new processes/transaction flows and IT systems
  • Assess and conclude on the impact of developments in the business on financial transaction processing and financial reporting risks;
  • Manage the testing of control design & effectiveness to be performed by outside consultants;
  • Document final year-end conclusions and remediation plans;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance with a designation CPA, CA
  • 5-7 years of auditing and/or accounting experience in a public accounting firm or public company. Experience with SEC registrants and/or PCAOB audits are considered a significant asset.
  • Experience in the manufacturing sector is considered an asset.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and French.
  • Up to date in IFRS accounting pronouncements
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, evolving and growing environment

  • Strong work ethic and able to work under pressure and perform under tight deadlines
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word and Power Point)
  • Demonstrated ability to use data query and reporting tools

  • Ability to analyze and synthesize information and complex issues to develop meaningful analyses to help make informed decisions
