Reporting to the Director of Manufacturing Engineering, the Design Engineer prepares drawings, plans and other technical documents to carry out manufacturing projects or tooling modifications for vehicles on the assembly line.


As part of your daily work, you would have to:

  • Design adapted tools for a vehicle assembly line on 3D CAD software.
  • Produce, review and annotate detailed 2D manufacturing drawings and shop drawings.
  • Perform various basic design tasks (take measurements, establish constraints, calculate basic material strength, etc.).
  • Brainstorm new concepts with the team.
  • Draft technical documents, specifications, preventive maintenance booklet.
  • Work with Industrial Engineering and Production to make tools and templates for efficient assembly methods.
  • Perform tests and mechanical adjustments to install new tooling.
  • Analyze risks both at the operational level and to introduce new products.
  • All other related tasks.

What you need to succeed in this position:

Knowledge

  • Excellent understanding of different manufacturing processes
  • Excellent understanding of geometric and dimensional tolerancing
  • Knowledge in applying recognized principles of process safety
  • Catia or SolidWorks expert ise
  • Microsoft Office Suite expertise
  • Must be bilingual (French and English)

Studies and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • 5 to 10 years of tool designing experience
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment an asset
