Reporting to the Director of Manufacturing Engineering, the Tooling Director will manage the tooling park and design team to support the design and manufacturing of lifting and tooling equipment for our vehicle assembly lines.


As part of your daily work, you would have to:

  • Manage a team of tooling designers to produce equipment and adapted jigs for the vehicle assembly lines.
  • Produce, review and annotate detailed 2D manufacturing drawings and shop drawings.
  • Perform various basic design tasks (take measurements, set up constraints, calculate basic material strength, etc.).
  • Brainstorm new concepts with the team.
  • Draft technical documents, specifications, preventive maintenance book.
  • Assist the methods group to incorporate tooling / jigs into the assembly methods.
  • Perform tests and mechanical adjustments to install new tooling.
  • Analyze risks both at the operational level and to introduce new products.
  • All other related tasks.
  • Build, maintain and improve the assembly strategy to meet the manufacturing plan of the truck assembly line.
  • Define work standards, balancing and set up the assembly line stations to accommodate the various pacing changes.
  • Analyze, observe, take measurements to find value-added activity ratios and identify improvements.
  • Develop operation sequences and material flow analysis for assembly stations.
  • Evaluate and propose key indicators to measure assembly process productivity and performance.
  • Find and propose improvement projects, as well as take part in brainstorming sessions to find resolve production problems that arise from various sources.
  • Establish, change, implement and monitor work methods, procedures, rules and engineering criteria.
  • Build and make preventive and corrective actions to make managing operating processes safer.
  • Evaluate tooling and jig needs, and help design them.
  • Help members of the Industrial Engineering department to implement Standard time methods and analysis.
  • Help the Methods team introduce engineering changes or BOM change notices.
  • Liaise between the R&D Engineering and Production to produce prototypes to determine efficient assembly methods (Design Reviews) and make recommendations for design improvements.
  • Coordinate risk assessments for existing and new processes, both in current operations and when introducing new products.
  • Design and improve safe, efficient workstations.
  • Participate in occasional OHS meetings.
  • All other related tasks.

What you need to succeed in this position:

Knowledge

  • Excellent understanding of various manufacturing processes
  • Excellent understanding of geometric and dimensional tolerancing
  • Knowledge in applying recognized process safety principles
  • SolidWorks expertise
  • Microsoft Office Suite expertise
  • Must be bilingual (French and English)

Studies and Experience
